Donald Armata

Donald Armata was born in Toronto in 1942. He studied in Toronto at Central Technical Art Institute taking the art course. After graduation he worked in the commercial art field for 36 years. Five years ago he and his wife Linda retired to the Stirling-Campellford area. He is now able to devote much of his time to oil painting.

A good deal of his artwork has a historical theme and the subjects are ships, trains and older buildings, cars or just about anything that has a story about it. He believes it is important that his paintings should have a good deal of mood in them. This is achieved by contrasting colours, in combinations with a wide variety of tones and values in a blend of representational and impressionistic styles.

He was influenced by his instructors at C.T.A.I., Doris McCarthy and Charles Goldhammer and the approach to painting developed by Charles Hawthorn, Emil Gruppe and others from the Glouster School of Art.
