Annual Exhibition - general background
The Society's Annual Exhibition of Members' work is open to all the Society's full Members; non-members may, after submission of a portfolio to the Society's Jury, be invited to submit up to five works in any medium.
Subject matter must be marine in character, the sea or tidal waters thereof, or the Great Lakes or rivers. The Society's Annual Exhibition usually opens on the first week-end of May for a period of six to eight weeks and the high standard of work shown is rigorously maintained by the Society's jury panel.
The Annual Exhibition is accompanied by a number of events which include a guided tour of the exhibition by the current President of the Society, an illustrated talk, and a series of demonstrations by members of the Society.
The following guidelines were established on 24 February 2008, but remain valid as of 10 April 2022:
Duration of Exhibition : From six to eight weeks, the first day being a vernissage and private viewing.
Maximum number of works to be submitted : five
Maximum number of works which may be selected : five
Subject matter : Exhibits must be marine in character. The main interest must be the sea or tidal waters or the Great Lakes or some object or person essentially connected therewith.
Acceptable media : Oil, acrylic, watercolour including gouache; drawings, pastels, sculpture; original prints of any media (must be from a numbered, limited edition not exceeding two hundred and fifty, smaller runs are encouraged); models; scrimshaw. Exceptionally, other art forms may be considered by the jury panel, but prior consultation with the Society is recommended.
Minimum price on works for sale : $500 (exceptions may be made for minatures). [Works not for sale will be liable to a premium of $50, if placed]
